Apple, Samsung Grab All Smartphone Profit In Q3

To the victors go the spoils. In the smartphone market, Apple ( AAPL) and Samsung continue to
split all of the profit, leaving other vendors with zilch.
Apple took 59% of the worldwide operating profit in the sector in the third quarter, while Samsung
accounted for 47%, Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley said in a research note Monday.
Together they accounted for 106% of all smartphone profit in Q3 — more than 100%, so to speak,
when you look at the profit pool — because Google's ( GOOG) Motorola Mobility unit, Nokia ( NOK)
and Research In Motion ( RIMM) lost money last quarter.
In the second quarter, Apple and Samsung combined to grab 108% of smartphone industry profits.
