the real HMS Bounty war burned and sunk in Bounty Bay. This ship was a replica built for the 1962 movie. (That's made clear in the story you posted, I don't want to imply you though differently.) Apparently it left New London CT a few days ago and its next appearence was to be in FL. tallshipbounty.org I suppose it was stopping off in port in NC. But there was plenty of warning of the hurricane. I'm not sure why it didn't try to escape the effected area earlier. Edit - "Bounty has departed New London CT...Next Port of Call...St. Petersburg, Florida. Bounty will be sailing due East out to sea before heading South to avoid the brunt of Hurricane Sandy." mutinywiththebounty.com "Tracie Simonin, director of the HMS Bounty Organization, said that the ship left Connecticut last week bound for Florida and was in contact with the National Hurricane Center as it tried to skirt the massive storm barreling up the East Coast." csmonitor.com Apparently it was trying to skirt it a little too close.
