Defense spending is totally out of control. However, if you look at the budget, you'll find that defense spending is number 3 behind Health Care (Medicare/Medicaid) and Social Security spending. And keep in mind that many people come back to me and say that we have savings for Social Security. No we don't. All that's in that SS Trust Fund is a bunch of IOUs. So we make SS payments from general revenues. So any budget that doesn't look at these three things is just a continuation of the same old game of stealing from our kids to pay for things we want today. I wonder exactly when will everyone in the US recognize that we have to do three things to bring our finances under control: raise taxes, cut spending, and stop debasing the currency? When we balance our budget and stabilize our currency, then we're back on the path of sustainability.
