MCAF announces WebShieldX
DEC 1, 1997, M2 Communications - McAfee, the world"s
leading vendor of anti-virus security software, has
announced WebShieldX, the first family of products to
deliver complete anti-virus protection, hostile applet filtering
and email content filtering in a single solution. At the same
time McAfee and Trusted Information Systems, announced
a strategic alliance to resell McAfee"s WebShieldX with
TIS" Gauntlet family of network firewall security solutions.
While residing at the Internet gateway, WebShieldX, scans
both inbound and outbound traffic looking for potentially
destructive malicious code. WebShieldX extends McAfee"s
advanced "hostile applet" and virus protection from the
client to the server, and builds on the company"s software
products that deliver. total Internet protection of corporate
networks from malicious code and security breaches.

100% Virus Detection with Hunter Engine

Hunter engine technology. The Hunter engine technology
protects against the more than 13,0000 known viruses and
has the most advanced macro detection capabilities in the
industry. In addition to viruses, WebShieldX filters all
downloaded code through a library of digital signatures
which identify preestablished Java classes and ActiveX
controls that are known to be potentially dangerous. When a
match is made, WebShieldX can alert the user, alert the
system administrator or deny access to these banned
objects. Content filtering allows administrators to scan
outbound and inbound email traffic looking for key words
or phrases. Pre-set actions, such as blocking, quarantining
or logging, can be triggered once a key word or phrase is
detected.
WebShieldX - Scalable Solution
WebShieldX offers the most comprehensive, scalable
gateway protection, from Internet service providers to small
workgroups and enterprise networks. WebShieldX provides
content filtering which enables IT departments to establish
specific guidelines for data transmitted through the corporate
firewall. For example, a code word associated with future
products can be identified by WebShieldX and prevented
from exiting the corporate network. McAfee is the first
security vendor to provide this level of security combined
with anti-virus protection at the Internet gateway level.
WebShieldX and WebShield are available in multiple
versions enabling customers to choose solutions that best fit
their Internet gateway strategy. WebShieldX Proxy is
designed to protect customers employing Microsoft"s Proxy
Server for Internet communications. WebShieldX CVP
(Content Vectoring Protocol) protects customers utilizing
CVP compatible firewalls. WebShieldX LX employs a
packet filtering technology designed to scan all Internet
traffic while sitting behind a company"s firewall.
WebShieldX is part of McAfee"s Total Virus Defense Suite
