'Dad, I know you are probably right, but I just cant tell the whole world to f*ck off, I need to be with people that can give me warmth and comfort, even if it is not a life that is really true...'. ie, from her experience, she feels like it is more important to be part of a group than to take control of her life, very sad as her behavior is substantially self-destructive, but for now at least, that is the path she has chosen.
It's understandable because it takes some gumption to ignore mindless mob mentality like Boxinthegutter, Metacomet, Brasco, SeaOtter and about 16 others who rec stupid posts in a frantic urge to be in the boss chimpanzee gang. They don't use reason. They are just an ugly stupid vulgar violent cowardly mob. Many people prefer to be in a group no matter what, subsuming themselves in the culture so that they fit in and are accepted, even though it will take them to their demise. Whole countries go down the gurgler like that, with people dying in the tens of millions as in Mao's Maelstrom, Stalin's mass murder and the sang, called Sieg Heil, lined up, and signed up for the Nazi Third Reich. Democracies have gone a considerable way along that road to perdition and serfdom. Greece has entered the final throes.
There is nihilistic lowest common denominator thinking which has gained a lot of ground. Angry gutter-rap is fashionable. The 20th century socialist surrealism has not led to success. To the extent it has been adopted, people have failed.
It will be abandoned, but a lot of carnage happens on the way. But that's how it always was. Our brains got as good as they are because all possible thinking was tried and only the successful gets filtered through to the next generation. Evolution isn't just done by individuals, it's done by groupthink too, en masse DNA selection as whole communities fail and die. Nature is very cruel, merciless, relentless and inevitable. People have to choose to live in compliance with the four forces of the apocalypse or be recycled into CO2 to fuel another generation of trials.
Sometimes it is better to pretend to go along with the crowd, to effect escape at a more opportune time, rather than be destroyed immediately.
China at present is such a place. Those who are able to are escaping as best they can, getting the loot out while the looting is good. I noticed [during a visit there] that people in China are living a lie. They don't really believe what they are doing. The policeman is only pretending. Lurking not far beneath the taciturn visage is a regular person. But there are plenty enough vicious thugs where that's not true and those ones mean business. The rest are scared and stay strictly in line.
The good thing about democracy is that it provides a way out other than revolution. When surrealistic, nihilistic, lowest common denominator, dog eat dog, kleptocratic Big Brother thinking gets too much of a grip, the other side can gain ground as reality-based people say "enough". Unfortunately, without Tradable Citizenship, democracy isn't much better, with looting the taxpayers and national assets being the name of the game.
It's an even balance on Tuesday whether Americans will go further into the socialist maw or go in a bit better direction.
Meanwhile, Gabon seems likely to be a node in a trend: me.ga ElMatador has laid fibre around Angola. There are interesting possibilities for the 21st century. History has not finished. From Me.ga website:
Multi-centric data warehousing
Before, we operated only a handful of storage nodes located in expensive premium data centers. Now, thanks to encryption, we can connect a large number of hosting partners around the world without worrying about privacy breaches. Our servers will be closer to our customers. This will result in faster data transfers.
