The political implications of the effect of Sandy in New Jersey will be intricate. Right now Obama and Christie seem to be in fine shape and getting better. But it's very early in the aftermath. It could turn quite bitter if electrical power takes long time to come back in certain parts of the state, or the gasoline supply gets even more pinched such that cars can't gas up and emergency generators can't be refilled. And so on. Plus the rebuilding efforts--should they go intolerably slow.

Christie is doing many of the right things, including embracing Obama, i. e., the federal government's assistance. In addition, today's newspapers have a story about voting difficulties for dislocated families. Christie's respone? Find ways to vote via email and fax. Now the criticism is that lots of folk, particularly poorer folk, don't have access to computers. But the positive side is that Christie is trying to expand the franchise not shrink it. Astute.
