Nok and Msft entered into a partnership in the latter part of April, 2011. April 2013 will mark the 2 year anniversary of that contract. NOK WP7 became available in June 2012 and the launch was somewhat adversely affected by the news that WP8 was coming soon and that W7 phones could not be updated to it. The launch of WP phones is now being somewhat spoiled by the news that Msft has their own W8 phones in the making. I understand the arguments Elop is putting forth about this new development having advantages for the ecosystem. However, if Msft decides to compete by making their own phones, W.S. and others feel that this will be a net negative for Lumia phones. I am not privy to the details of the contract but I hope it contains some sort of compensation in the event they now opt to directly compete with Nok. Failing this, I would hope they would agree to hold off for at least the remaining three years of their contract before releasing their competitive W8 phones.
