fred -( I am obviously having a boring day today -g-) -

after receiving many bs articles from liberal friends, I have gotten into the habit of "fact-checking", if you will -g-
While I am not, in any way, disagreeing with the content of that quote, I am always dubious of something printed, without a linked source.

Sooo, I decided to look for that Czech Republic Newspaper that is being quoted. While I still don't know to whom that quote should actually be attributed to, what I found is actually much more satisfying -

Clarifying An Internet Rumor - "Prince of Fools"

american-daughter.org

Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev signed a disarmament agreement between the United States and Russia, meeting in the Czech capital Prague on Thursday, April 8 this year [2010]. The Czech newspaper carried several articles relating to this event during the run-up to the meeting and reporting on it afterward (Google translation): . . .

The viral email concerning this article incorrectly reports the text as coming from the newspaper article:

Some people have the skill to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote was translated into English from an article appearing in the Czech Republic as published in the Prager Zeitung of 28 April 2010….

In fact, the sentiments expressed, which a large number of Americans now agree with, are from a reader comment made in reference to the events of that week in Prague: . . .

That exact same comment had appeared one month earlier, on March 28, below a Reuters article — DAVOS-Soros says Obama bank levy premature, backs other plans. It is not clear where the comment originated, but what is certain is that it predated its appearance at the time of the Prague meeting between Obama and Medvedev.

Apparently these remarks have struck a chord in the US electorate, and so the email, with its included incorrect attribution to the Czech paper, has gone viral. But whatever the Czechs may or may not believe privately, their press is NOT guilty of showing discourtesy to a visiting foreign head of state.

My Second Find

A comment posted under the above "American Daughter" article stated -

The bulk of it [the referenced quote] came from a black conservative, Ellis Washington, commenting on Obama’s first State of the Union address on January 27, 2010. Parts of if have a familiar ring but I can’t place it.

Sooo, I decided to look for that Ellis Washington quote.

Black Conservative Response to State of the Union Address

nationalcenter.org

Washington, DC - In the aftermath of President Barack Obama's first State of the Union Address, members of the Project 21 black leadership network are commenting on his presentation tonight and his performance during his first year in office: . . . .

Mr. Washington's entire quote:

Ellis Washington: "President Obama in his first year raised the spending limit to unsustainable levels ($1.35 trillion); more than GWB did in 8 years and now Obama is championing a freeze on spending?! President Obama's first State of the Union Address painfully exemplifies that this clear and present danger to America is not Mr. Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man of this ilk with the presidency. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us -- lack of common sense and good judgment. To paraphrase a comment on Reuters: Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who despite his promise to 'fundamentally change America' is, after all, merely a fool. The failed Marxist policies encapsulated in Obama's first State of the Union Address makes him less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president. Seemingly remarking on these troublesome times, Etienne de la Boetie said: 'If without violence the tyrant is simply not obeyed, he becomes naked and undone and as nothing.'" (Ellis Washington is a member of the national advisory council for the Project 21 black leadership network and a former editor of the Michigan Law Review.)
