Management has already told us to expect similar performance for the 4th quarter. The Nortel agreement has saved Shiva's butt, but also put it in a straightjacket for all of 1997. The management's disclosure of the agreement at the end of March specified that Shiva would received set fees through Dec. 1997. Thus any real benefit to Shiva's bottom line wasn't likely to start flowing till after the first of the year. Nortel seems to have made Shiva an intregal part of it's product line. The alledged changes in the Nortel agreement for 1998 will indicate what Shiva's positive chances are.

Shiva's biggest contributor to it's temporary demise was it's lack of marketing skill and customer support. These items are seeming to be addressed. The new CEO has skills in these areas, and if you check the Shiva Home page for employment opportunities, you will find quite a number of new positions that are obviously directed at these specific problems. The # of new jobs being offered should be viewed as very positive.

Don't bet your marbles on the 4th quarter. Tax selling is not over yet either. Signs of life shouldn't appear until after the first of the year, thus the 1st quarter 98 reported in April should be our first beginning indicator. If VPN turns out to be anything like Bob Z. just reported, Shiva could be hot again through 2001! Also, if Shiva reports very positive changes in the Nortel agreement, I want to be around the January Effect!!!!!
