>Here's what troubles me. Almost universally, when I speak to medical doctors, most affiliated with the biggest oncology centers, and whether they are oncologists, radiation oncologists, urologists, cancer surgeons and even internists, they universally are negative on this type of treatment, even in conjunction with other treatment.<
Well, doctors are almost universally very conservative – followers rather than pioneers. I suppose I should say that is just my opinion; but that would just be polite, as I think it is a stark truth. And, pioneers also control the introduction of many products. The medical field is at or near the top in such conservatism; and that is actually a good thing. All that said, I think doctors are generally stupid re microwaves. And, of course, there are some strong boosters for microwave heating – a growing number of them.
>When presented with some of the arguments you make so well, the response is often along these lines, "Where are the large randomized trials? Where are the JAMA studies? Docs and researchers thrive in today's environment on publication.<
Actually, for several of their products (only the BSD-2000 series excepted) the gamut of FDA requirements has been run and approval granted. And, the base model BSD-2000 has an HDE approval (which also allows substantial “off-label” uses). And, many long term tests for the BSD-2000 series are well along or (I think) completed; with excellent results. The pioneers now have their justification for early practice.
>Despite what many say about the influence of big pharma and big medical tech, if pomegranate or wine extract cures a cancer, there will be researchers jumping on it and publishing." <
Well, pill-pushing is a hallowed practice. :-) “Thermal Medicine” (a silly term I hate!) is simply not understood, outside a small but growing cohort.
>I still can't get by the fact that this has been "out there" for many years and it has not gotten further along. If it really works, the argument goes, it would have been "discovered" by the medical community and the patients, particularly in these days of internet medical research by the general population. <
The company says that early use of microwave heating for cancer therapy was badly flawed. So, it initially got a bad reputation – hard to overcome. Presently, however, the MTX-180 (for Interventional Oncology -- tumor ablation, specifically) is successfully being introduced. If you have an interest in BSDM, it is imperative that you be immediately diligent re this product. The company has alerted investors of large %-age increases in sales due to this product. And, the 10k on about 12 Nov might, IMO, show them nearing or reaching overall profitability. Time to invest? Your decision!
>I also have a more specific question that I have tried to get answered. After a cancer patient has localized radiation, typically a recurrence cannot be re-radiated because of the long term risk to surrounding organs and tissues. Has BSDM's treatment used (or is it contemplated) in this type of case, which is very common, particularly in prostate cancer treatment? Is there anything published to support this?<
YES!! Both (hard) radiation and various drugs are very unhealthy and even hazardous, while microwave heating treatments, with proper technique, are fundamentally benign to healthy tissue and can be repeated if needed. Furthermore, adequate temperatures fully kill tumors while radiation and drug treatments often do not. Even surgery, I suspect, has some hazards – cancer cells released to circulate in the blood stream? I think heat is fundamentally the best tumor-killing method – provided only that the heating can be done precisely enough. And, BSD Medical has mastered the fundamentally best method for creating that precise heating – many synchronous, controllable waves emitted from outside the body – only the tumor (and margins) are heated significantly. And, the addition of MRI imaging (BSDM-2000/3d/MRI provides superb imaging for setting up and monitoring this heating!
YES!! There are now many publications of highly successful use of BSD Medical’s products. Here is a recent one for advanced rectal cancer; and prostate cancer is, I believe, generally a simpler situation:

“BSD Medical Reports Clinical Study Demonstrates Threefold Increase in Tumor Destruction from the Addition of Hyperthermia for Advanced Rectal Cancer Patients
SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BSD Medical Corporation (NASDAQ:BSDM) (Company or BSD) (www.BSDMedical.com), a leading provider of medical systems utilizing heat therapy to treat cancer, announced today that published study results demonstrate improved rates of complete pathological tumor response (no evidence of viable tumor in primary tumor and lymph nodes) in advanced rectal cancer patients from the addition of hyperthermia, delivered using the BSD-2000 Hyperthermia System.” (MORE)
There are now many reports of highly successful trials – including long-term results – of microwave cancer therapy. BSDMedical.com has links to many of these. If I or a friend or relative develops a cancer, I will insist they find a doctor who is up-to-date re microwave therapy. And, if necessary, go to Europe for treatment! They are far ahead of the U.S. in adopting microwave therapy. |
