i have been to ny, ma, ct, nh, and vt and i have never gotten the impression they are so fiercely independent compared to texas. i think in any state with very high taxes one will find lots of dependent people who will grant them stuff. every time a dem runs for texas governor we hear about how taxes need to go up. they have not won in a long time.
