Romney won the first debate, tied the second, and lost the third and failed to counter the effective attacks on him. Romney's a decent moral man, a skilled business man and leader, but ultimately he's responsible for his failed campaign.


... Romney failed to go after the president on foreign policy and allowed Democrats to define who he was, Pitts said.

The Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four people was "a failure to protect our own people and property," he said. "The president, I think, was just trying to cover-up until after the election.

"Foreign policy was an opportunity for (Romney) to press on the credibility and weakness of the president and he failed to do that," Pitts said. "I think that hurt Romney's credibility with the voters."

While Romney may have presented economic issues well, Pitts said Romney failed to respond to character criticisms.

"He let them paint him as an out-of-touch rich guy when he was an actually an experienced businessman who knew how to create private-sector job growth," Pitts said.
