I agree that the older generations - after having paid a huge price - were able to figure out that freedom works, while heavy handed government oppression leads to disaster (especially if it is married to a messianic ideology of some sort, be it Marxism, or Nazi racism, or more recently, revolutionary Islamism).

There is no mystery, really, what kind of social organization tends to lead to prosperity.

China is successful to the extent that it allows private enterprise. They starved - until they begun to encourage individuals to become rich. If they'll make a decision to tighten controls, their economic growth will be compromised - just as our economy is compromised and made less competitive because of excessive controls and regulations.
