I hate to say it, but this is the hallmark of not thinking: gov can create jobs but not wealth and it's wealth that raises everyone up Just do a little thought experiment: What function of commerce is impossible for a government entity to engage in? Answer: None. Ergo either nothing creates wealth, or governments can create wealth. What is true (with caveats) is that on average private free enterprise does it with better efficiency, and therefore should on average create more wealth. But there would also be cases where the reverse is true, and China does a could job of showing that.
