Could be. After all, Americans come from self selected groups of people who had the nerve, at some point, to leave their homes and to go overseas to look for better lives.

So it could be that societies which figure out how to leverage more collective behavior can out compete societies which elevate individual freedoms.

Leveraging collective behavior will also leverage the errors of those who do the leveraging. If a corporation makes a wrong decision, there are many other corporations willing to pick up the pieces. But if an entire nation wonders off in the wrong direction, that's a much bigger problem. One of the many problems with Socialism.
