Romney certainly could be classified as a socialist Repub. All US politicians on the National scene pretty much have to be to get nominated/elected. There are too many programs out there, with too many dependents, that can be reduced but can't be totally stopped now.

Despite that, like you, I thought Romney would be the best at managing the country and especially the economy. I thought he would have transformed the coming Obamacare into something that would actually work. I thought he could get our energy policy back to sanity . In other words, I thought Romney was more the pragmatist with the experience to make things work on a national level versus Obama the ideologue with little skill at management, economics, negotiation and compromise.

I go back to the social issues that some Republicans keep blasting away about. Regarding abortion, gay marriage, and deportation of Mexicans there is really nothing worthwhile about fighting these things. Abortion is the law of the land, gay marriage is going to be voted in over time no matter what, and no one in their right mind is going to round up all Mexicans and bus them back to Mexico. Hard line positions on these issues that nothing can really be done about cost us 2 Senate seats and a Presidency. I hope it was worth it.
