I'd have to go hypothetical to attempt to answer that and don't want to.

The conservative candidates were destroyed in the primaries and Romney wasn't ... he was destroyed in the general. I think it was planned that way.

Obama was a failure but still turned out his base. Dems could run Homer Simpson and get 61M votes. We didn't turn out all our base.

I don't like that there was no Romney campaign in "safe" states like mine. A lot of people who go to the polls vote straight ticket ... it's faster, easier and few know much about the down-ticket races. So the down-ticket candidates suffer when the turnout of the base is low. Coattails are important. Getting the base out even in safe states is important for the party. I can recall Palin visiting the Woodlands near here in 08 but Romney and Ryan came to TX only to raise money, not campaign for themselves or anyone else.

Thinking of that this was from 7/28/012 when Palin came to campaign for Cruz: us4palin.com I can't find a similar visit by Romney or Ryan. Not only didn't they campaign in TX, I think they avoided associating with people like Cruz because he was a tea party candidate and I think they wanted to disassociate them from that poisonous taint (in Team Romney's view).
