Ann, you need to get educated in the knowledge and art of community organizing and how to treat and rally people. There is no better training ground in teaching and training managers in managing individuals and employees. I should know since I have performed both. Managers have to manage from the heart! The credo for effective management is: (1) Hear and understand others, (2) Even though you disagree, please do not make others wrong, (3) Acknowledge the greatness in others, (4) Remember to look for others loving intentions, and (5) Tell others the truth wih compassion. Additionally, others must be empowered and given ownership in those decision which impact them. The role of effective management is to look for the success of others when they succeed rather than managing by the exception while looking for those things that individuals do wrong.

Unions do not have the opportunity to organize if employees are treated fairly using the above management skills. There are no issues to organize around.

Only when autocratic, or dictatorial managers forced their will on others does organizing issues surface. Then, we organizers had fun personalizing against the dictatorial type of manager by organizing his people against him/her. Masses of people organized for action against the power figures can quickly equalizes the balance of power against these types of individuals. Hopefully, you are not that type of individuals.
