11/9/12 Contest Update
Obama has the ball again and his next hurdle is pinning Republicans to the mat before they march us over the fiscal cliff. Meanwhile, my feelings about what it all means for biotech stocks are as mixed up as my metaphors. Where are Nate Silver & Sam Wang when we really need them?
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 20.84% YTD (vs. up 25.08% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 24.99% YTD (vs. up 25.94% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 11.50% YTD (vs. up 14.47% YTD a week ago).
RKRW’s portfolio, up 101.92% YTD, kept a lock on first place by a big margin, while GENE’s portfolio, up 65.85% YTD, held second place. And, much to my astonishment, my own portfolio, up 50.81% YTD, took over third place as DONS’ portfolio got clipped by a CPRX trial failure.
(RKRW’s portfolio, along with BIOMAV’s, got a substantial boost after hours from CELGZ. It jumped following positive results from the Abraxane pancreatic cancer trial. Great news for pancreatic cancer patients!)
At Friday's close, 6 of the 38 Contest portfolios were now in the red, with 14 of the 38 portfolios beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week.
(Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in the weekly and YTD Top 5 & Bottom 5 tables, when posted.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
Have a wonderful weekend biotechies!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
