Some told us that taking another job in the Obama administration might make it hard, if not impossible, for him to run as a Republican again for the White House." You'd think that being the only guy in a field of complete clowns to get zero traction in 2012 would be a much bigger factor there, but then, this is Republican politics we're talking about. But then, that would seem to make it all the more impossible for Huntsman, regardless.
Still, I don't like the State idea much either. In principle, sending an R out to testify in Darrell Issa's inevitable nutcase "investigations" would be nice, but Issa is, ah, enough off the deep end that it'd make no difference. Is there some sitting Lugaresque Republican Senator with a D governor to appoint a replacement? I'd guess that's an extremely limited pool, and Lugar was probably the only Lugaresque Republican to begin with.
Somebody in the family mentioned Obama looking for a job for the Mitten, which is a nice thought and all, but I think he may have misread Joe Klein's last column or something. |
