Which is why if you're having a problem with your computer, the best thing to do is to shut down and pull the plug and wait a minute before starting up again.

I've found some problems that would not go away unless that was done.

That's an interesting point. I recall a PC virus years ago that would hide in the video card of the PC, so it was undetectable and wouldn't be killed on a soft reboot, even after antivirus software had been run. You had to shut it down completely in order to get rid of it.

Ingenious and nasty.
