The point is that the 1% have until this point kept taxes away from wealth and towards wage income and are themselves in the 15% area in taxes.More spending doesnt effect them much.Even a VAT tax would take away some of their wealth.Better would be increase capital gains tax and dividend tax and increase tax rates on those with over a million annual income. How about a Federal real estate tax on non productive land or real estate value over a million?
I will adjust my work and investments to be at or below 250K.It makes more sense to cut the work part of my income.More leisure, less risk of law suits.I have worked 70 hour a week for 20 years (6AM-7PM M-F and 4 hours Saturday with 2 months of vacation a year) .I dropped 20 hours a week of work in May and another 20 hours a week will be dropped this January.By 2014 I plan to work 20-30 hour a week for 6 months a year only.I am 22 years out of residency. How many other physicians are thinking like me?How many in other areas of work?If I was coming into this environment as a new MD I would likely work 6 months a year and travel the rest.People will change their behaviour in the 80-99% income group and this is the group that drives US productivity. If they work less and pay less tax it is game over
