No, I don't think we are saying the same thing at all. I went long heading into earnings because I expected earnings would help the stock market move higher. The market was oversold then too. While earnings outside of technology (semiconductors) has been better than expected the market is not moving higher.

Typically after earnings season comes and goes the market loses a little steam in the absence of news. This year we have the worries surrounding the fiscal cliff to exacerbate the problems the market has faced recently.

Now I don't know if the market is going to rally or fall further here but I'm unwilling to go long or short until we either rally back up to past resistance, or fall to such and extent that meaningful sentiment is overly bearish.

In other words no reason to be a hero here trying to guess the trend in my opinion. I would rather wait a bit even on very short term trades.
