Also, trying to find out whether there is a correlation between depleted phytoplankton levels in the Arctic ocean and reductions of Sea Ice (presuming phytoplankton trapped within the sea ice acted as a "seed particle" in it's initial formation.

Any oceangraphers or marine biologists following this thread?

Look at page 318 of the following link.. first paragraph.. Apparently the levels of "entrapped" phytoplankton are 1.5 to 2.5x the levels in the surrounding ocean water..

I realize that there are any number of particles that could act as a "seed particle" for the formation of sea ice..

But could a reduction of those particles be responsible for declining levels of Arctic Sea Ice, while we're seeing record levels of sea ice in the Antarctic?

Gotta have seed particles in sufficient quantities for ice crystals to form.. right?

I know it's a long shot.. just curious..
