NEEDHAM, Mass., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- UroMed Corporation (NASDAQ:URMD), a company committed to men's and women's health care, today announced that UroMed will be a Preferred Provider of continence care products within the MultiPlan, Inc. Network. MultiPlan covers approximately 20 million lives. UroMed's continuum of covered continence care products includes the Reliance(R) Urinary Control Insert, the INTROL(R) Bladder Neck Support Prosthesis and the Impress(TM) Softpatch -- all FDA-cleared for marketing, as well as the PelvicFlex(TM) Personal Trainer Video. All of these products offer relief to the millions of American women who suffer from stress urinary incontinence. John G. Simon, UroMed's chairman of the board and chief executive officer commented, "Women deserve access to the superior solutions for incontinence that we alone offer. We are pleased that MultiPlan has agreed to include UroMed as part of their network available to their varied client base of insurance carriers and self-insured organizations, including numerous employer and labor management plans, as well as governmental agencies." MultiPlan, Inc., based in New York City, is one of the largest and oldest PPOs in the United States, serving more than 20 million lives nationwide. MultiPlan's approach, indicated by its corporate motto "America's managed care partner," allows it to offer access to healthcare in 49 states. MultiPlan is a Preferred Provider Organization which offers its members more than 50,000 providers and 23,000 facilities including more than 40 percent of the acute care hospitals in the nation. UroMed's preferred provider status would provide MultiPlan enrollees access to UroMed's products. UroMed, founded in October 1990, is dedicated to establishing itself as a leader in the development of male and female healthcare products. UroMed has three primary areas of initial focus: breast cancer, prostate cancer and incontinence. In addition, next year UroMed will be offering its FDA-cleared continuum of care products, the Impress Softpatch, and the BEACON Technology System(TM), a minimally invasive incontinence surgical line. In the area of breast cancer, UroMed is developing its BreastCheck(TM) breast self examination device together with its physician-use BreastExam(TM) counterpart device. Both devices may potentially enhance breast cancer detection. The BreastCheck technology is an investigational technology and may be available to women in the U.S. as early as the first part of 1999 if FDA approval is obtained within that time frame. In the area of prostate cancer UroMed is pleased to offer the CaverMap(TM) Surgical Aid system. UroMed also continues to dedicate significant resources to the development and/or acquisition of new options that fit into UroMed's continuum of care in male and female healthcare.
