Might be time to really start taking a second look at Indonesia.. I've been watching the new Governor (Jokowi) and Vice Governor (Ahok) tearing the corrupt and bloated bureaucrats a new @sshole over the past month.. Just amazing!! Right after he was sworn in, he did a surprise early morning inspection of an ID issuing office, which is supposed to be open at 7:30, only to arrive and find only one staffer on duty.. The office supervisor was seen arriving as Jokowi was leaving.. People seem to really love what he's doing.. But I'm sure his political opponents are not going to give up their corrupt "gravy train" so easily.. And the Vice Governor is hitting bloated budgets extremely hard and posting the budget meetings on YouTube.. news.detik.com youtube.com And they are pushing for a review of the MRT plan for Jakarta, which makes sense as any Subway system here is probably doomed by the fact that Jakarta is still sinking/settling.. Light rail, like Bangkok's Skytrain, makes far more sense.. thejakartaglobe.com If these two survive, they may become the leading candidates for president in 5 years.
