Mike: The only problem with Visual Age for Java is the system requirements. display - SVGA 32mb ram min. recomended 48mb Pentium or higher processor. I should perhaps have mentioned that it does require a powerful machine. I had to upgrade mine to 64MB with Windows NT to get reasonable performance without hammering the hard-disk pagefile really hard. Now that you can get 64MB of memory SIMMS for under $300 its not that big a deal any more I suppose, just a pain if your laptop can't be upgraded. I'm not actually sure what requires the memory, but the other Java tools (e.g. Java Workshop, Java Studio) seem to require more memory than the C++ tools used to. Also, I don't know how much of VAJ is actually written in Java, but I'm trying to find out for my own interest sake. I am also interested in whether IBM is going to cross-platform the tool, i.e. support Solaris. They do indicate they are going to port to AIX (their UNIX variant). Its the completeness of the implementation of Java Bean support that really impresses me, together with the support for all of the design patterns that entails. P.
