I posted this tidbit on another thread this morning when we were discussing HPQ's latest bomb. It is eye opening when looking at how much they have spent on acquisitions and what the end result has been.... The first comment is in reference to the purchase of Autonomy.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "That purchase was the one that wrecked their balance sheet. Just shy of 11B in cash, most now down the drain. I looked up what they paid for just a few acquisitions: 1) EDS - 13.9 billion 2) 3Com - 2.7 billion 3) 3Par - 2.35 billion 4) Autonomy - 11 billion 5) Arcsight - 1.5 billion 6) Compaq - 25 billion 7) Mercury Interactive - 4.5 billion There are quite a few others at this link: en.wikipedia.org Adding up just the few I've listed nets out to almost 61 BILLION dollars... HPQ's current market cap - 23B.... PS - IMO, WIN8 isn't that great, so they don't have many places to hide.... "
