Richard: I agree - you never know. The difference is you have the ability to day trade out of the situation without a MAJOR gap down or up.

Let's face facts, probably 80 - 90% of news influencing the market comes out BEFORE the open and AFTER the close.

There's nothing wrong with holding overnight if you are POSITION TRADING. But you should never have CONCENTRATED positions when position trading. If you are wrong you could take a MAJOR hit.
