Subtle as an Anvil

"It is harder to see a path to success today than it was in 2009, but the writing has been on the wall for quite awhile"

"On the other hand, this may be the first wave of vultures starting to circle PVCT for a pending meal..."

"...watch the skies for circling birds"

There are other "quotes". It reminds me of a Gary Larson comic where there are a bunch of vultures surrounding a carcass and one is wearing a cowboy hat and says, "Hey look at me, I'm a cowboy, howdy, howdy, howdy." Something like that.

Well (speaking of thirsty) there are always scavengers along the trail. Some hapless traveler seeking a better place harangued constantly by circumstances. If it's not the poison in the water, it's the dam rattlesnakes. You know the hazards.
But if you're going to walk the trail, and you do see "circling birds" it doesn't mean "you" are the target of their attention.

There is no doubt the way is difficult and there are culprits rolling rocks. The heat is intense and the image off in the distance may be a mirage. One thing I know, there is no laying down. There is no going back, there is only forward. If this is not the way, then another must be found. There are people dying and antagonizing them is cruel and heartless.

The wilderness is an inhospitable place.
