Speaking as someone who was recently involved in the purchase of a G3, I knew full well about the StyleWriter 4500 incompatibility issue before buying. Luckily, printing wasn't a big deal right away, so I can wait for a patch. I know this isn't the case for everyone.
I think you're right, Eric, about the surprising lack of glitches with the release of this new hardware. Considering the fact that it was released on time, and that the newest version of the OS is right on (or ahead of) schedule, not to mention Rhapsody, I think things look pretty damned good. Of course when you're sitting in front of a new Power Macintosh G3, everything looks pretty damned good. ;)
OS8 and the G3, I think, were just the first steps in Apple's recovery. If you're not willing to be patient with the stock, you might as well get out now.
