Means testing should be implemented incrementally in such a way that nobody gets screwed out of a contractual arrangement that they thought they had. In other words, don't change anybody who has already paid into the system, but everybody who comes into the system from day one has to pass a means test.

Social Security should be viewed as an insurance policy that you pay for in order to protect yourself in the event of catastrophic poverty. You pay for fire insurance but you don't collect anything if your house doesn't burn down.

I'm with you. I would be very upset if the government changed the terms of my retirement after I'm retired.

re means testing. 1) that wasn't the deal when they collected from people serious money, for decades, and the future benefits were clearly spelled out.
