The press gets better circulation by scaring everyone that Congress will push us off the fiscal cliff, but pragmatically, Congress can just kick the can down the road by agreeing to a Continuing Resolution Amendment before the deadline like they do every year. So this deadline for the Fiscal Cliff is not really a deadline in Congress's mind as they can always punt the problem down field.
