I don't think wanting some controls on immigration means one is NECESSARILY a crypto-racist or xenophobe.

The problem inherent in this statement is the implication that there are no controls

Currently living within 60 miles of the Mexico border I can assure you that massive attempts to control the border are in force

Any trip south of Tucson brings one into contact with a virtual army of Border Agents dispersed thruout hundreds of miles of desert

This is not a situation that will lend itself to simplified remedies such as added border controls

Further, the practice of American employers to have a preference for these powerless wage slaves, who will accept any wage, will keep the pressure on folks who need to eat to find ways to enter the country

There need to be thoughtful solutions to these issues
