I've not fallen in love with Windows 8. But I've continued to fiddle with it to see if I could mold it into something useful, or maybe just less annoying. Software to replace the missing Start Menu on the desktop seems like a good place to begin.

I've downloaded and installed a few. They all have "quirks" and fall short of ideal. However, as time passes, they're getting much better.

Today, I've been working with StartW8. It's really close to what we get with Windows 7. As well, it's easy to configure, consumes few resources, and it's FREE!

Note: I have no affiliation with the people who provide StartW8. It's simply my favourite of the many Start Menu replacements I've tested so far.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. A nice feature of StartW8 is that if one moves their mouse pointer to the lower left of its Start Button, they still get the Metro screen. I haven't seen any mention of this. Too bad -- I think it's a nice plus.
