Owners of the Google Nexus 7 and other 7-inch Android tablets can now remotely control their Xbox 360 consoles via a free app.

Updated yesterday, the Xbox SmartGlass for Android app acts as a second screen for your Xbox console. You can use the app on your phone or tablet to navigate your Xbox dashboard, control videos and music playing on your console, search Microsoft's Xbox catalog, and surf the Internet.

Until yesterday, the app worked only on certain Android devices. The release notes for the update don't list which 7-inch tablets the app now supports. But logging into Google Play and launching the SmartGlass app download page will tell you if your tablet is supported.

I was able to install the app on my Nexus 7 tablet. A comment from one user on Google Play said the update worked on his 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

But apparently the app still doesn't support Android tablets larger than seven inches, at least according to another user comment. It does support the larger iPads.

CNET contacted Microsoft to confirm that information and will update the story with further details.

The SmartGlass app is also available for Apple's IOS and Microsoft's own Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8.
