You didn't highlight the best sentence of all in that post of yours, so I'll do it here:
In its simplest form, this will involve raising taxes at the high end and reforming entitlements enough to ensure their continued success and sustainability. Much of that, an accountant could do. But it takes a gifted politician for the heavier lifting. That leader will have to make his still-fledgling health care act work and earn his premature Nobel Peace Prize on an issue like climate change. In the process, he could restore the good name to traditional liberalism.
And btw, the traditional definition of the word liberal, going back to the early 1900s, was something more akin to Libertarian and was focused on individual liberties. As Socialists adopted the word, it came to mean something else, which included social engineering to reach some kind of utopian ideal, which is when the Republicans started to use the term in the pejorative. Liberal in the traditional sense is not a bad word. Hayek called himself a Liberal. I call myself a Liberal i the Libertarian sense. But I am not a Democratic Socialist Liberal.
