The VIX is based on a market of stocks, rather than a market of stocks being based on the VIX All Indexes are based on the underlying, so it should be the underlying determining the price of the index, make sense? In 87 it's a little known fact but at the CBOT there was an Index called the MMI, it was hardly traded and had very little volume, but it was where the FED started buying huge on Tuesday people.duke.edu I couldn't find it, but I believe Bart13 has it somewhere on his site....nowandfutures.com
