You make a good point. How do you think we got here? Socialism comes in many forms. Ultimately, socialism is a dependence on the state. It increases that dependence, simply by taking choices away. As freedoms dwindle over time, what's left is something that looks like a Totalitarian state. We have already been creating the infrastructure of Totalitarianism in this country. You and I have often discussed the laws that now allow for the indefinite detention and assassination of American, without Judicial review, and at the sole ultimate discretion of the US President. The only thing we're missing for the advent of Dictatorship is a malign person with enough charisma to seize the reigns of Dictatorial power already in place and use them for his own aims. That's how far we've slid from Democracy to Socialism towards something far worse.
