The setup is identical to how it was two days ago when it was working fine.

I've changed the speaker, and this other speaker works fine with the same wire. The problem speaker is actually a mini-woofer which takes in the coaxial cable from the laptop, then has two small speakers attached to it by coaxial cables. The humm comes out of the woofer even if the other two speakers are not attached, and there is no sound/music playing.
