"in search of props"

On Monday - on this thread in response to a post - I did suggest that COMS and CPQ would be stocks I would short right now... I was brave enough to recomend the short on an up day... the result was a ton of E MAIL.... some nice some naughty.... like I have a vendetta against the Co's or something.... when in truth - I think the whole modem business is a low margin comodity nightmare to be avoided at all costs... and that much of what is now called networking will be provided preinstalled for free by Intel and Microsoft... Today COMS started to fall apart.... tomorrow it will fall a great deal further.... TOMORROW I MIGHT BUY COMS FOR THE FIRST TIME... 'cause it will be selling at my kind of a price... a big old discount to the worst probable case. Maybe now the E MAIL will be more respectful... as I was only little old me giving a considered opinion that as luck would have it has been bourne out buy the facts... quickly.. IMO Compaq will follow COMS into the abysss... because even if it can compete with DELL selling direct it will be at the expense of margin, and if that "premium" disappears... as it must because a box is a box is a box when you're buying direct... so does a good part of the rich valuation......
