You mean "since the tax receipts from the stimulus started flowing into the treasury", or do you mean "Since outflows for unemployment and food stamps decreased after the stimulus created jobs"?

"now we face the prospect of falling off the fiscal cliff"

Not really; we face the prospect of jumping the fiscal curb on skateboards. That makes me happy. First significant cutback in defense in longer than I can remember, plus more revenue. I could even live with it if all the tax cuts went back to Clinton. Income, estate, dividends, SS, all of them. More money to spend on Green and on bridges and potholes.

"Well that's what Simpson Bowles have been hitting the air waves with"
Up theirs.
I would like to have a beer with Simpson, tho. He's pretty cool, as long as he doesn't talk about economics or politics.

"What needs to happen is some straight talk from our leaders; Obama"

We have straight talk from Obama..."Rates on the top are going up." Period, end of story.
I hope

"The key word here being....."painful".
Really, I don't care how badly this hurts the rich. I do care that it doesn't hurt at all for those at the bottom. I really don't care if Lebron and his team have to pay 16% SS on a $10M salary so that some widow can keep collecting SS and mostly free health care. Their whining will be music to my ears.
