He can call himself Lord; he inherited that. He was not told to stop saying he was a Lord. He was told to stop claiming he was a member of Parliament. IOW, he was told to stop lying. "the UK has a quite different legal system from the USA" Yup; we are not quite so sanguine about people claiming "I am a member of the Senate" when they aren't.
