Economics is, quite obviously, a very different academic discipline from the sciences you note. It's less cumulative. It's clear you've got a serious problem with the awarding of the Nobel in Economics. Fine. Just not the topic at hand. The Nobel recognizes eminence in the field. There have been lots of very serious disagreements about the nature of the award and the criteria. Nonetheless, it's about as clear an indication as I can think of that an economist's work is widely respected. In Krugman's case, which is what this is about, it is a clear recognition of that. Hardly, as Steve seems to think, that he is simply incompetent.
