I think the proof is that they can't use their knowledge to make themselves or others consistently rich. IMO, an accountant is a better investment for a company than an economist. For an investor, a degree in Econ seems to be no advantage. My wife is neither accountant nor economist yet her picks are superb. I'm sure these guys take their work seriously, but when one asks what is behind the actual value of an American dollar and why anyone should pay a dollar for one, the answer is not quantitative and demands a lot of trust in the answer. If I roll a ball down a ramp, Newton works great. Just like on the calculator. You can do it at home. The methods my grandfather used were not strictly quantitative and certainly not economic, yet he and others made money. Warren Buffet it seems would be a better candidate for a practitioner of the Economic arts yet, he gets no prize.
