Look, I am very lucky. Have always said so. But I'm also an incredibly hard worker. Have worked all my life, since I was 12 or so. And my parents didn't pay for college when I got married at 19. I had to bust my ass waitressing at night, and taking classes during the day. My dad said he'd pay for law school, after I mostly paid for my undergrad myself- but then he dropped dead my first year and my mom chose not to honor his promise. So I have zero pity for people who don't work. I don't want to see the lazy starve in the street, but I don't want to encourage them.

We have very little Darwinian pressure on us now. The stupid and inept can produce as many kids as they want, and society doesn't want to see them starve. You have to counterbalance that a little bit- or the morons WILL inherit the Earth. And i don't think it will be a particularly good Earth.

I think society should focus quite a few resources on the young. They will support this whole heavy edifice of society, after all. And we should keep people from starving and dying in the streets. I would support a certain basic level of medical services for all- immunizations, disease management, etc. I would like to see wasteful payments to people who do not need them cut. I'd like to see taxes on the rich raised. I'd like to see a lot more spending on infrastructure.

I give a shit. I just don't necessarily give a shit about the same stuff you do. And so it goes.
