Your use of the adjective "extreme" to describe Krugman's economics and his politics is, in the current practice, simply a way to dismiss his work without addressing it. And a labeling exercise to get others to dismiss it. It's much better to do as you have done in the past, which is to address the thought, proposals, policies that you disagree with.

I don't see any serious argument which would characterize his economics as extreme. He's decidedly a mainstream salt water Keynesian. Just much better at communicating his views about the economy than any other economist now trying to be a public intellectual.

As for his politics, I also think it's better to address his specific analyses than to characterize him as "extreme." Again it's simply a way to dismiss him without thinking through his proposals.

As to whether his stimulus proposals were "extreme", I have not seen any argument to that effect. They were, roughly, the same size as Romer and Summers started with, until Summers bailed. As for your argument about debt accumulation, the counter argument is that a large stimulus would generate a great deal of economic activity which would increase tax revenues and lower social safety net costs in the short term and bring the economy back quicker in the long term. Thus, less debt.
