I'm sorry...I still can't justify the valuation....

I don't have a ZIP, Jazz or anything else currently....I started looking at backup products when my hard drive and programs started giving me an attitude....

ZIP has the most acceptance - I agree

Companies are shipping ZIP internally - I agree again

ZIP has become the new standard - I stronly disagree. Zip tapes, Jazz tapes and other storage backup devices must get a lower price point before myself and many others will purchase them....I won't pay the amount they want for each cartridge.....A zip isn't much good since my hard drive is now over 1 Gig...I would need 1 Jaz to back up everything right now....that cost too much.....

The ZIP is for storing large files I would presume...not backing up hard drives....How many hard drives to you have that are less than 100MB? As for storing files that are large Ie > than 1.44 MB, why would I spend so much when a cheaper alternative exists or will be coming out soon? I like the ZIP and the Jazz....neat products....too expensive though....the valuation on IOM has everyone and their grandmother buying these things....NO WAY!!!...I know that the tapes are where the profits are....Ie. the more installed drives, the more tapes sold with higher margins.....Razor and blade thing....

I don't see ZIP becoming the standard.....backwards compatibility is the key element.....200 Mb with the new Sony product mentioned in Barrons...This, to me (a prospective buyer of a tape backup product), is an interesting product. From a computer companies perspective, this is easier to sell to your customers (assuming price point is good).

I realize that 200 MB still isn't big enough for my backup purposes.....What I am looking for, and someone will deliver sometime, is a huge backup system at an affordable price....It should be portable too.....

Any engineers out there? I got the acct and finance part of the biz.....
