That's one possibility. Another is that it won't. A third is that it will change paths. It's an ongoing experiment, and we'll find out, someday.

I think that statement applies to everything from ocean acidification, methane release, to "tipping points" due to global warming.

It certainly applies to the extremely dire predictions of James Hansen in 1988 when he started this AGW debate.

Continue to collect more data and look for any rapid changes, in either direction.
