ATAPA ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND PERSONNEL CHANGES
ETOBICOKE, ONTARIO-- Atapa Minerals Limited ("Atapa") announces that, effective October 29, 1997, Mr. Gaylord Watkins was appointed as a director of Atapa. Mr. Watkins is a mining and energy lawyer who has been based in Indonesia for more than six years. Counsel to Soewito, Suhardiman, Eddymurthy & Kardono, a leading Indonesian law firm, Mr. Watkins advises a number of companies actively involved in mining exploration. He also represents oil and gas companies as well as independent power producers. Mr. Watkins is a graduate of McGill University (geology), Osgoode Hall (1967) and Yale Law Schools, and a member of the Law Societies of Upper Canada and Alberta. Mr. Watkins was also accredited as a legal advisor by Indonesia's Department of Justice. His experience in dealing with South East Asian and transnational legal issues began in 1968 with a 2 year term as a lecturer at the University of Singapore's Faculty of Law. More recently, he practiced law for several years as a partner of a major law firm in Alberta and as an international partner of Baker & McKenzie.
Mr. Bambang Irianto has recently been promoted to Project Manager for Atapa's Cikidang project in South West Java, Indonesia. Mr. Bambang is a geologist with approximately nine year's experience in the mining industry in Lombok and Sumbawa, Indonesia with Newmont Mining Corporation. He was most recently Senior Project Geologist for Atapa.
Mr. Rayes Sembiring has been promoted to Project Geologist for Atapa's Cikidang project. Mr. Sembiring has also worked with Newmont Mining Corporation throughout the Lombok and Sumbawa islands of Indonesia.
Mr. Alan Hawke has recently resigned as Atapa's Vice President, Exploration to pursue other interests. Atapa would like to thank Mr. Hawke for his guidance during his tenure and to wish hem well in his future endeavours.
ATAPA currently has approximately 9 million common shares outstanding and its shares trade on the Canadian Dealing Network (CDN) in Toronto as ATAP.
